ABOUT YOUNG PHILANTHROPISTS

Many Dallas youth have been involved in philanthropy projects through their schools or synagogues. Often the impetus for establishing individual and group funds is a Bar/Bat Mitzvah—either as fulfillment of a related mitzvah project or to give special meaning to the deluge of cash gifts that can overwhelm 12 or 13 year olds.

Jewish Star

Older students sometimes pair philanthropic goals with creative undertakings to enhance their résumés and college applications. The Dallas Jewish Community Foundation’s expertise in assisting teens with both group philanthropy and individual funds comes from long-term relationships with generous families wishing to teach tzedakah to their children and grandchildren, our staff’s personal and work-related involvement with synagogues and schools, and our implementation of numerous scholarships throughout the community including many endowed scholarships whose continuity has been entrusted to us.

The DJCF simplifies teen philanthropy programs, giving students more time to focus on their tzedakah projects and schoolwork. Fiscal responsibility is still taught, yet total accountability is shared with the Foundation, adding credibility. Not only does the Foundation’s staff offer personal guidance, but we also provide access to an established structure, direct and secure online giving capabilities, increased exposure to potential donors, and links to related websites. In addition, when donations are deposited and waiting to be distributed, funds earn interest.
