We are proud to recognize and encourage support of additional efforts of Community Endowment Partners’ youth toward tikkun olam, repair of the world...
Akiba Academy's sixth graders began making a difference in May of 2006, by sponsoring the First Annual "Walk to Remember.” The same group of students, now in eighth grade will hold the 2008 walk on March 23rd. Heather Baer, the group’s advisor, uses the campus event as a tool for students to learn to work together effectively in a cooperative environment while accomplishing a set goal. Funds raised are donated to Sharsheret, a national organization dedicated to addressing the concerns of young Jewish women facing breast cancer. This year’s goals will include passing the responsibility of the group to younger students.
Yavneh Academy’s student body is involved in numerous tikkun olam efforts. Uniting Students of Dallas (USD) promotes tolerance by involving numerous local school student councils in an all-day event called Mix It Up Day – a Day of Tolerance. The second annual event was held November 13th, 2007. SAC, Social Action Committee, co-founded by Mica Esquenazi and Emily Cohen, initiated their recycling program, Hashinui—Hebrew for “the change” (www.hashinui.com) in December of 2006. The group which has “sistered” with Emmanuael College in London, promotes awareness and change for environmental issues striving toward an “eco-Kosher” world. HELP—Helping Everyone Live Peacefully holds an annual campus dinner and most recently raised funds to fight slave trade in Thailand.
