Speaker Details

Russell N. James, J.D., Ph.D., CFP®

Russell James is a professor in the Department of Personal Financial Planning at Texas Tech University. He holds the CH Foundation Chair in Personal Financial Planning and directs the on-campus and online graduate program in Charitable Financial Planning. Prior to his career in academic research, he served as planned giving fundraiser, an estate planning attorney in private practice, and a college president.

The Meyer L. Bodoff Memorial Award Recipient

Larry Schoenbrun

The Meyer L. Bodoff Memorial Award of the Dallas Jewish Community Foundation is presented annually at the Professional Advisors Seminar. We’re honored to announce that this year’s recipient is Larry Schoenbrun.

Larry Schoenbrun recently retired from Foley & Lardner LLP, where he worked on mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions. His nearly six decades at the firm included work representing business owners and executives, working with private equity companies and venture capital investors, and serving as an advisor on an array of corporate matters. A graduate of Tyler High School, he went on to earn both his B.A. and his J.D. from The University of Texas at Austin.

Larry has been a longtime supporter of the Foundation and is a Life Trustee. He has also served as Chair of the DJCF/SWCF Board and on many Foundation committees. He has been involved with many nonprofit organizations, including the Anti-Defamation League, CHAI: Community Homes for Adults, Inc., the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum, the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, and the Texas Hillel Endowment Foundation at UT Austin. Additionally, Larry has been a passionate advocate in the nonprofit community on the importance of setting up endowment funds.

Larry and his wife Celia have three children – Benjamin, Michael, and Kathryn – and five grandchildren.

The Meyer L. Bodoff Memorial Award is given annually at the DJCF/SWCF Professional Advisors Seminar to an advisor who has been an outstanding partner to the Foundation. Award recipients have:

This Award has been generously endowed by the Stanford M. Kaufman Family Fund of the Dallas Jewish Community Foundation. Meyer L. Bodoff served as President and CEO of DJCF/SWCF for 12 years. He saw the Foundation through significant change and growth, always guided by his desire to leave the world a better place than he found it. The Meyer L. Bodoff Memorial Award honors the fact that he did just that.
